Treberfydd Foundation

The Treberfydd Foundation is a social enterprise set up to continue the philanthropic tradtitions of Robert Raikes, who built Treberfydd House, and his great-uncle, Robert Raikes of Gloucester (pictured upper left) who in 1780 founded the Sunday School Movement to provide free education for the poor. The movement is commonly seen as the forerunner of the free state school system that has been operating in the UK since 1831.

In August, 2011, the Foundation launched Art@Treberfydd, a digital and traditional art exhibiton which raised nearly £3000 for Peace Direct, a prize-winning charity which provides support to local peace builders in conflict zones around the world. The 2012 Art@Treberfydd exhibition will run from July 14 to 29th.

The Foundation does not have an endowment, nor is it a grant-giving organisation. It exists to provide support to those activities which build on the Raikes family's creative and philanthropic traditions.
